Refund policy
AfriAura Refund & Returns Policy
Effective Date: 04 August 2026
This Refund & Returns Policy applies to all purchases made from AfriAura. By placing an order, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted this policy.
This policy is governed by the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA"), the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 ("ECTA"), and all other applicable South African laws.
1. General Policy
Due to the nature of jewellery products and for hygiene, safety and quality assurance reasons, AfriAura does not accept returns or provide refunds unless required by South African law or expressly stated in this policy.
Customers are responsible for ensuring they have selected the correct item before completing their purchase.
2. No Returns for Change of Mind
AfriAura does not accept returns or issue refunds where a customer:
-
Changes their mind;
-
No longer wants the item;
-
Orders the incorrect item, colour, style or size;
-
Purchases an unwanted gift; or
-
Finds the product elsewhere at a lower price.
These situations do not qualify for a refund.
3. Opened Packages
To protect the quality and integrity of our jewellery, products are supplied in sealed or protective packaging.
Once the original packaging, tamper-evident seal or protective packaging has been opened, removed, damaged or altered, the product is no longer eligible for return or refund except where required by applicable South African law.
Customers may inspect products only to the extent reasonably necessary to determine their nature and characteristics.
Where a product has been opened, worn, handled beyond reasonable inspection, altered or used, AfriAura reserves the right to refuse a refund or reduce the amount refunded where permitted by law.
4. Hygiene Products
For hygiene and health protection reasons, earrings, body jewellery and any jewellery intended for pierced body parts cannot be returned once the sealed packaging has been opened, unless the item is defective or South African law requires otherwise.
5. Used or Damaged Jewellery
Returns will not be accepted where the jewellery has:
-
Been worn or used;
-
Been scratched, bent or damaged;
-
Been resized or modified;
-
Been repaired by anyone other than AfriAura;
-
Been exposed to perfumes, lotions, cosmetics, cleaning chemicals or water;
-
Been damaged through misuse, negligence or improper storage;
-
Missing original packaging, certificates, accessories or tags.
AfriAura reserves the right to inspect every returned product before determining whether it qualifies for a refund.
6. Defective Products
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
If a product is genuinely defective, unsafe or not of acceptable quality as contemplated by the CPA, you may return the product within the period prescribed by applicable law.
AfriAura reserves the right to inspect and test the returned product to determine whether the defect is covered by the CPA.
Where the defect is confirmed, AfriAura will comply with its legal obligations under South African law.
This does not cover damage caused by:
-
Normal wear and tear;
-
Accidental damage;
-
Misuse;
-
Improper care;
-
Unauthorized repairs or alterations;
-
Failure to follow care instructions.
7. Incorrect Orders
If AfriAura supplies the incorrect product, customers must notify us within 48 hours of delivery.
The product must remain unused and in its original packaging.
Failure to notify AfriAura within a reasonable period may delay or affect the processing of the claim.
8. Damaged Deliveries
If your parcel arrives visibly damaged:
-
Photograph the parcel before opening it.
-
Photograph all packaging and contents.
-
Notify AfriAura within 48 hours of delivery.
AfriAura may require these photographs to investigate the claim with the courier.
9. Online Purchases
Where the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act provides consumers with a statutory cooling-off right, AfriAura reserves the right, as permitted by law, to refuse a refund or deduct an amount where the returned product has been opened, used, worn, damaged or handled beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect it.
Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless South African law provides otherwise.
10. Refund Process
Refund requests must include:
-
Proof of purchase;
-
Order number;
-
Customer name;
-
Description of the issue;
-
Clear photographs where requested.
Refunds will only be processed after the returned item has been received and inspected.
Approved refunds will be issued to the original payment method where reasonably possible.
Original delivery charges are not refundable unless required by law.
11. Fraud Prevention
AfriAura reserves the right to refuse any refund request where:
-
False information has been provided;
-
The returned product differs from the original purchase;
-
The product has been intentionally damaged;
-
Evidence of fraud or abuse exists.
AfriAura may request identification, proof of payment and additional information before processing any refund.
Fraudulent refund claims may be reported to the relevant authorities.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, AfriAura shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising from the purchase or use of its products.
AfriAura's liability shall not exceed the purchase price actually paid for the relevant product.
13. Consumer Rights
Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or limits any rights that consumers have under the Consumer Protection Act, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act or any other applicable South African legislation.
Where any provision of this policy conflicts with mandatory South African law, the applicable law will prevail.
